A little about Basic, Everbowl and me :)
So I’m Erich Broesel - a college drop-out who went to work early using my artistic interests as an excuse to become a designer. The early years were humble - very, very humble. But I stayed with it, moving from the wind and dust and comparative emptiness of my beloved Palmdale hometown to Orange County. Palmdale is in California, but I knew I needed to be closer to the Punk Rock and Action origins that were my influences. Yeah, it was an interest thing, but really I just was a nervous and desperate seeker of opportunity. Slowly, the move paid-off as I was eventually landing freelance projects for clients like Hyundai, Quiksilver, Budweiser and Ford - all because of some stubborn grit, a love for drawing and my youthful obsession with the California culture I grew up in.
In 2010, another college drop-out and I named Matt Faulk, formed Basic Agency in San Diego. Together, we did (and Basic still does) amazing things. I won’t bore you with Basic’s ridiculously impressive and ever-growing client list - suffice it to say Basic lives among the most revered digital agencies of our time. My pride for being a part of it’s creation is something that will live with me forever as I continue to serve with the things Matt and I taught ourselves as we faked, battled and grinded our way through a seemingly endless recession.
After seven years designing brand at Basic, my passion began to evolve toward being more on the entrepreneurial side of brand-building. Now that I’m no longer with Basic, along with some freelance work that I do for fun, I’m the co-founder and CBO of Everbowl Craft Superfood. We opened more than a store-a-month in 2018 throughout Southern California. We’re on the move with 16 stores opened as we celebrate our 2nd birthday and we have an even more ambitious 2019 planned ahead.
These days I’m a brand designer turned entrepreneur, which means I understand both sides of the client/designer relationship.
I’m always keeping busy - using my love for design, and my understanding of brand to create fun and compelling stuff to share with the world. I am consulting for hire, but I’m not here just to hype myself - hopefully you’ll find that my work can speak for itself. But I also want to advocate for the power and usefulness of brand-thinking and beautiful design - not just as things I sell, but as things everyone should give attention to as they contemplate inventing organizations and even re-inventing themselves. I draw my daily happiness helping companies see themselves as a style of living, and refining my recipe for helping brands become “instantly contagious” in this ever-evolving culture where brand is everything.
